About
At Riverside Family Medicine, Dr. Colt works as a psychologist and Dr. Athena works as a family medicine physician serving individuals of all ages and family members seeking comprehensive primary care services to individuals and families located anywhere in New York State. We look forward to seeing patients in person in central upstate NY or via telemedicine, which may be available to patients who are physically located in the state of New York at the time of the visit.
We imagine a healthcare experience where patients feel heard and are viewed by their doctor as the expert in their own experience. Together, patients work with us to prioritize their wellness*, embodiment, chronic disease management, and preventive medicine.
As we develop and grow, our commitment remains unwavering: to deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical care while fostering strong patient-provider relationships. With a forward-thinking approach, Riverside Family Medicine aims to redefine community healthcare and make a lasting impact on public health.

Athena Valencia, MD, grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She attended The University of Texas in Dallas, where she studied neuroscience as her primary major. During her time in Dallas, she worked on a research project for psychology known as The Healthy Development project. This research also focused on the psychology of fat shaming and how this could produce eating disorders. Other notable accomplishments during her time in Dallas involve creating a capstone project for the honors college that was based on the leading theories of consciousness. Dr. Athena then pursued her MD through the University of Texas Medical branch where she focused her efforts on promoting health and well-being for 2SLGBTQI+ individuals. During her time there she was able to start a clinic with the help of clinical staff at St. Vincent’s. This clinic focused on providing medical care to transgender and intersex people who did not have insurance. She was also involved in advancing pediatric care for intersex individuals concentrating on respecting autonomy and promoting well-being. Athena is very enthusiastic about this type of work and is happy to begin working in upstate NY with Dr. Colt, as they attended medical school together.
