Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
When the usual things have not worked
Some people cycle through three or four antidepressants and years of therapy and still feel stuck in the same place. Ketamine assisted psychotherapy is for that situation. The medication opens a window where old patterns loosen and things you have not been able to reach become reachable, and the therapy is what turns that window into actual change.
The medicine on its own is not the treatment. What happens in the room, and in the sessions afterward where you make sense of it, is the treatment.
One clinician, start to finish
In most places this work gets split. A prescriber handles the dosing, a therapist handles the talking, and the two of them may never speak. Here, Dr. Colt is both. He earned a PhD in clinical psychology in 2013 and an MD in family medicine after that, which means the person deciding whether this is safe for you is the same person sitting with you through the session and the same person you talk to about what came up.
Care starts with a full look at your history, your medications, and what you are hoping for, because this is not right for everyone and we would rather say so early. Sessions happen in the office with support the whole way through, and you will need someone to drive you home. Integration sessions follow, where the experience gets worked into something you can actually use.

A medication assisted approach to depression, anxiety, and PTSD, delivered by one clinician who is both prescriber and therapist.

Is this right for me?
It depends on your history, your current medications, and what has already been tried. Ketamine assisted psychotherapy is generally considered when depression, anxiety, or PTSD have not responded well to standard treatment. Certain medical and psychiatric conditions rule it out, which is why the evaluation comes first.
What is a session actually like?
You are in a quiet room with support the entire time. The experience varies quite a lot from person to person and often involves shifts in perception, mood, and how you relate to your own thoughts. It wears off within a couple of hours, and you will need someone to drive you home.
How many sessions will I need?
Most plans involve a series of sessions over several weeks, followed by integration work and, for some people, occasional maintenance. We will map out something realistic after the evaluation rather than committing you to a number before anyone knows enough.
Is ketamine approved for depression?
Ketamine is an FDA approved anesthetic, and its use for depression and other mental health conditions is off label, which is common and legal in medicine. We will go through what the research supports, what the risks are, and what is still unknown before you decide anything.
